The Energy Moves Collaboratory island in Second Life will be a virtual learning and collaboration space for students, teachers, university faculty and invited experts.

As the model illustrates, the central, circular building (the Collaboratory) has three floors, each with its own purpose and function. Floating above the central Collaboratory are three multi-purpose pods that will serve as landing points for each of the three geographical locations involved in Energy Moves. The ESI teams can meet and interact with one another in the floating pods and then transport down to the top floor of the Collaboatory. The top floor will serve as a space for interactive learning modules and other digital methods of knowledge acquisition. The second floor has a large central multi-purpose area surrounded by five spaces that reflect a modified version of the five phases of the creative thinking spiral; ImagineCreateExperimentShareReflect (M. Resnick, 2007). These rooms will allow students access to a variety of resources that will further their research goals. Students from all locations will interact in these areas. The ground floor can be used as an auditorium for guest speakers and expositions of the ESI teams research.
